My favorite competitive video game genre is fighting games. Whether it’s Smash Bros or Street Fighter, there’s something I find approachable as a viewer to digest with all the action on the screen. Over my decades of fighting game experience, I’ve grown a special appreciation for out-of-the-box designs that make a character feel unique to play as. This list isn’t at all the top 10 characters I’m best at. I’ll be looking at a character’s moveset, art, respect to their universe/universe building, moveset synergy/cohesion, fun factor, personality, and balance. I think a good design will feel so unique to them, offer a unique but fair play experience, and have me feel excited to play and watch the game, even if I’m losing.
